Looking to improve their average ACCAC season record, the Arizona Western College Matadors baseball team had high aspirations of finishing their latest road swing on a winning note.
They got off to a good start in game one of their doubleheader at Phoenix College. Erik Pedersen single handedly handled all the run support for the Mats, as he scored RBI hits in the second and fourth innings. Meanwhile, Travis Garcia-Perreira pitched a complete game shutout. The Matadors came away with a 2-0 win.
The second game proved to be closer than the first. Matador hurler Jeremy Alderman struggled on the mound, giving up three runs in the top of the first. Even though the Mats fought back (even taking the lead in the fourth), Phoenix put together enough runs to squeak out with the game two win; 6-5.
The Mats will host Paradise Valley this coming Saturday.
