Yuma City Council member Edward Thomas filed a motion at the Yuma City Council meeting Wednesday to allow the public to voice their concerns to the council before its work sessions on Tuesday nights.
The motion quickly passed; with all council members expect Mayor Krieger in agreement.
Typically the public is only allowed to speak after the council meeting ends on Wednesdays.
This is a recent change to the council’s schedule, as traditionally the “Call to the Public” would take place at the beginning of meetings.
It was recently moved to the end after some council members voiced concerns over the public misusing their time in front of the council.
Council member Paul Johnson believes this is a positive step towards better communication between elected officials and those that they serve.
“It provides the public a lot more access to city council. I think it’s a great idea.”
