Two Yuma men are behind bars, booked on charges of attempted murder following an attempted robbery. The Yuma Police Department tells News 11 the incident happened Monday night, at the Desert Palms Mobile Home Park, on the 500 Block of West 28th Street.
When officers arrived they found a victim, who stated two men approached him as he stood in front of his trailer. They then demanded money from him.
The victim said one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. The victim felt threatened, so he shot one of the suspects. The victim was not struck by gunfire and was not injured.
The suspect who was shot was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center by his accomplices. He was treated for life-threatening injuries and later flown to Phoenix for further treatment.
Officers arrested 19-year-old Jesus Bernal-Rivas and 21-year-old Angel Estrada. They were booked into the Yuma County Jail on charges of attempted murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault. Both are scheduled to make their initial court appearances Tuesday at Yuma Justice Court.
Officers have not released the name of the victim or of the suspect that was shot.
