Police are still trying to piece together evidence and figure out what led to the discovery of a body near an orange grove in Yuma late Monday night.
The body was found in the area of County 16th and Avenue 3 1/2 E, and the cause of death is still unknown.
Police have not released whether the body found was a man or a woman.
This is the second body found in a citrus grove this year, and people throughout the Yuma community are on edge.
“To be honest I don’t (feel safe),” says one man. I know there has been a lot of violence going on lately, and it has just been a crazy few months.”
While many are frightened by these incidents, one woman says people need to take their personal safety more seriously.
“I don’t feel safe, I close late at my job and I always make sure to check my surroundings,” she says. I always try to take care of myself, and I have been passing the word on to other people to be careful.”
She also says at times like this, knowing how to keep yourself safe is key.
“It really is all on the individual. Make sure to watch your surroundings, keep yourself safe, and know how to protect yourself.”
Police still do not have any leads, and the Yuma Police Department encourages anyone with information about this case to please contact them at (928) 373-4700 or 78-Crime to remain anonymous.
