The Yuma Heat swim team has competed in local and regional tournaments all summer long, and now one of their own has accomplished something none of his peers has ever done.
14 year-old Josh Dewhurst competed in the Far Western Swimming Championships that concluded on Sunday. His 400 and 200 meter freestyle swim times ranked as the highest that anyone from the Yuma area has ever achieved. He managed to score a time of 2:00.94 in the 200 and 4:18.60 in the 400.
Dewhurst finished fifth overall in both events. He's now qualified to compete in Sectionals; which is one step away from Junior Nationals. Not bad for a kid who has only been swimming for a two years!
