Some Calexico residents want to recall Councilman Luis Castro.
Ben Horton is part of the recall committee.
"I feel that the people are speaking. The voice of the people are speaking and majority are moving forward," Horton said.
Horton has accused Castro of derogatory and racial comments toward him after a special meeting last week.
City council has faced many problems over the past year with in-fighting, behavior unbecoming of city leaders and the controversial selection of a new police chief.
"The community is up in arms and they felt that this needs to be addressed so a lot of this is coming from them," Councilman John Moreno said.
The alleged incident last week was the last straw, Moreno said.
"We are the representatives and if they’re not happy with what’s going on then they need to voice their opinions and they need to tell the public how we can improve and what we can do and what they can do," Moreno said.
"We have high standards for our public officials. Like I always say if they can’t adhere to the high standards it goes to the word of character," Horton said.
Horton will speak at the Calexico council meeting on Tuesday to request for Castro’s resignation.
"Politicians, elected officials are a mirror of what the people are and I don’t think the people want to be what he stands for," Horton said.
