The Yuma Police Department acquired a new armored vehicle through a military program that allows agencies to access military equipment for law enforcement operations.
It's called the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Pro and it is equipped and ready to enter the police service.
The armored vehicle will be used with both the special enforcement team and high risk calls.
It's designed to reduce deaths and increase survival during gun fire, mine explosions and IED detonations.
The more than $600,000 armored vehicle is on loan from Fort Hood.
