The Calexcio Recall Committee to Councilman Luis Castro from city council has now regrouped and wants both Castro and Councilman Joong Kim removed.
Calexico Recall Committee leader Diana Nuricumbo served Councilman Luis Castro with recall papers during the city council meeting on October 1.
"Those documents right now are currently on hold because we’re going to reserve him along with Councilman Joong Kim," Nuricombo said.
The committee has started this recall effort because they say residents think they’re making decisions to fulfill their own agenda and not the people of Calexico.
"Luis Castro because he has ongoing conflict of interest. His family owns a transportation business and every time that issues come up about transportation, he refuses to recuse himself. Joong Kim is against development and it goes against what we’re looking for for our city," Nuricombo said.
After the two have been served, the committee has to collect signatures which is 20% of the more than 14,000 registered voters in Calexico.
Once they’ve collected enough signatures it will be placed on the ballot during a summer election next year.
"I believe we will have enough signatures to get them on the ballot," Nuricombo said.
News 11 left messages for Castro and Kim but our calls weren’t returned.
The committee is hoping to serve both Castro and Kim within the next week.
