The Yuma High Criminal community received a scare Thursday night when it was revealed that star running back Arturo Vargas was the victim of assault.
According to police, the incident occurred on the corner of Avenue A and 5th Street in Yuma. Vargas was returning to school for football practice, and was approached by an unknown bald Hispanic man, described as being in his 30’s or 40’s. The man then asked Vargas a question, and when the senior replied, the man lunged at Vargas with a shiny object, cutting him on his index finger. Vargas was able to fight the man off and report the incident to his football coach.
The injury to Vargas’ hand forced the senior out of Friday’s football game versus city rival Kofa.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Yuma Police Department at (928) 373-4700, or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous. A $1,000 reward could be given to anyone who comes forward with information that leads to an arrest.
