At just before five Wednesday morning, two men entered the oak tree inn on Sunridge Drive in Yuma and stole a room reader card from the front desk.
The two men are described as Hispanic males in their early to mid-twenties.
Police have released photos of the men taken by surveillance cameras at the hotel.
While one of the men was carrying a knife when he entered the building, it was not used to threaten any employees or patrons of the hotel.
"They asked the clerk to nicely step away from the counter, which he did,” says Yuma police department’s public affairs officer, Joe Franklin. “They then tried to use the knife to cut the cord (of the machine) but it popped out of the wall, so they took the machine and left after that."
Police are not sure why the men stole the card reader, which is used to make door keys at the hotel.
"Once removed from the system, if you don’t' know the codes, it’s essentially a very expensive paper weight."
Authorities have also released this photo of the suspect’s getaway vehicle, a white truck described as possibly being a 2010 or 2011 Chevy pickup.
