CALEXICO, Calif. - Border Patrol agents arrested an 18th Street gang member suspected of illegally entering the United States near Calexico Wednesday afternoon.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Border Patrol agents found a man who was suspected of illegally entering the country near Calexico.
The man was arrested by agents and taken to the El Centro Station for processing. The man, a 20-year-old Honduran national, informed agents he is an 18th Street gang member.
“Anytime our agents can intercept an illegal alien who is a gang member and prevent them from entering our communities in the U.S. is a good day for public safety,” said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David Kim.
The man is in federal custody pending prosecution for federal crimes.
