Border Patrol arrest a convicted sex offender

CALEXICO, Calif. - Border Patrol agents at the El Centro Sector say they arrested a previously removed sex offender on Monday morning. 

Agents say at 7 a.m. they encountered a man who was suspected of illegally entering the United States east of Calexico, West Downtown Port of Entry. 

After the man was transported to the El Centro Station and a record check was conducted, agents discovered the man identified as Mauricio Moreno-Garcia was convicted of Sexual Lewdness with a child under 14 in 2016 out of Nevada. Moreno was said to have been sentenced to 20-60 months of confinement for his conviction. 

Agents say that Moreno was removed from the Unites States on January 11, 2018 as an aggravated felon. He is currently being held in federal custody pending further criminal prosecution.
