YUMA, Ariz. - Year #1 of Robert Christensen's coaching tenure with the Brawley Wildcats boys basketball program has been a "rebuilding project" with the continual development of a younger crop of players.
The Wildcats finished 2018 with 3 losses out of their last 4 games, while taking on a Kofa Kings squad that lost their last 6 contests to close out the month of December.
Both teams were looking for a "fresh start" for 2019.
From the opening tip, this game took a gritty tone with physical play on both sides.
But, the Cats got good production from starters such as Charles Smith and J.J. Fernandez to give Brawley a double-digit halftime lead.
Even though the Kings would come within 8 points in the 3rd quarter, the Cats would pull away down the stretch to take the 66 to 41 win.
Brawley will host El Capitan on Friday before opening IVL play next week, while Kofa will try to snap their 7-game losing streak against Westwood next Wednesday.
