YUMA, Ariz. - The favored Cibola Lady Raiders have consistently been one of the top teams in the Yuma area in recent memory as they would take on a Kofa Lady Kings squad still seeking it's identity under 1st year head coach Tammy Pixley.
Both teams would cross paths in the 6A Desert Southwest Section opener for both squads.
From the start, Cibola would set the offensive tone that would prove to be too much for Kofa.
After Lady Raiders starting pitcher Kelly Katalbas retired the Crimson and White batters in order in the top of the 1st, the Cibola bats would begin to heat up in the bottom half of the inning.
With 2 outs, sophomore Stephanie Tapia would drill an RBI double off of Kofa starter Ahjaida Solomon.
Not long after, Tapia herself would score off a Lady Kings throwing error: putting Cibola up 3-0 after 1 inning.
Even though the Lady Kings would trade runs with the Lady Raiders in the 2nd and 3rd innings, ultimately they weren't able to slow down the Gold and Black's bats.
The Lady Raiders would take the 13-3 victory in 5 innings.
Fellow Cibola sophomores Marissa Valdez and Madison Mathews would each come through with 2 ribbies apiece in the win.
