Minnicks run as head coach comes to an end

YUMA, Ariz. - The man who led Arizona Western College football into resurgence is leaving the program after an 11-year run.

Tom Minnick accepted the head coach position at Garden City in Kansas City. The program is known as a powerhouse in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Football Scoop, a website dedicated to covering college coaching changes, was first to report on Minnick's next move.

Minnick brought back the winning swagger to the Matadors football program and helped bring back the El Toro Bowl. Minnick took the program to three national title games, two of them at the El Toro Bowl during his 11 seasons in Yuma.

Minnick's new school narrowly defeated AWC at the El Toro Bowl in Yuma two years ago in the national title game.
Minnick's last game will be Saturday when the Matadors take on #6 ranked Lackawanna at the El Torro Bowl.
