YUMA, Ariz. - Star Gila Ridge student-athlete Mia Corners has shown her grit on the track and the pitch through her time as a Hawk.
Now, that hard work has paid off. Corners signed her letter of intent to join Grand Canyon University in Phoenix on a track and field scholarship.
She made her decision official at a signing ceremony at Gila Ridge High School on Wednesday afternoon.
Corner's future was in question after she injured her knee before the start of the soccer season more than a month ago; as some of the schools previously recruiting her backed away.
GCU wasn't one of them and that might be the reason she signed with them.
"That really meant a lot and I think that was a big deciding factor in where I wanted to go because they still had faith in me; it was just incredible."
Corners told News 11 Sports that she plans on sitting out for the remainder of the girl's soccer season and upcoming track and field season in the Spring.
She plans on continuing to rehab her knee and prepare herself for next year's freshman campaign with the Antelopes, where she will compete in the triple jump and long jump events.
Corners plans on pursuing an engineering degree at GCU.
