HOLTVILLE, Calif. - Both the Kofa Lady Kings and Holtville Lady Vikings softball programs are trying to establish themselves with relatively new coaches and coaching philosophies.
They each have had tough seasons in their respective leagues, but both would cross paths late in the season; with the goal of getting back on the right track in the home stretch of their respective campaigns.
Even though Kofa would have a "leadoff single" to start; courtesy of Ashley Pallanes deflected grounder off the glove of Abby Garewal, it would prove to be Holtville's game.
In the bottom of the 1st, Emily Zarate would crush a 3-run home run off of Kofa starter Sabrina Tumbaga that would prove to be enough for Holtville in their 8-2 victory.
Lady Vikes starting pitcher, Zamara Gutierrez would pitch all 7 innings and would only allow 2 runs and come away with 5 strikeouts in the win.
Garewal would also have 2 RBI's, while Gutierrez and Ella Hoyt would also score a run in the Lady Vikings triumph.
