YUMA, Ariz. - 14 consecutive wins.
The Arizona Western College softball team is off to one of it's best starts in recent memory, as the Lady Matadors have carried that win streak to include taking their 1st 6 conference games.
They are doing it with an offense, as the Lady Mats are in the top 5 nationally in several different offensive categories.
The streak would continue on Tuesday afternoon in a home doubleheader against Pima.
Game #1 would feature unbeaten starting pitcher Koryne Coddington, as she looked solid for most of the contest only giving up a pair of runs in the 3rd and 4th innings.
Meanwhile, the offense gave Coddington more than enough wiggle room with a pair of home runs by Michelle Roldan and Danielle Burgos; as well as contributions from Andrea Cline in the 7-2 victory.
Game #2 started in similar fashion, as Sabrina Garcia and Reina Tsuma each clocked solo homers in the 1st 2 innings.
Starting pitcher Sarah Velasquez pitched 'shut-out ball' for the 1st 6 innings before the Lady Mats held off a 7th inning Aztec surge to take the 5-3 win.
The sweep extends the Lady Mats streak to 16 consecutive wins!
AWC will next take to the road to take on Mesa in a doubleheader this Saturday (2/23).
