YUMA, Ariz. - Since Cibola girls basketball took a "lop-sided" loss at Valley Vista in late January, the Lady Raiders finished their regular season campaign strong; winners of their last 3 contests.
In the process, the gold and black have claimed another 6A Southern Section title and have qualified for the "play-in" round of the state tournament.
Earning the 11th seed, Cibola would host 22nd seeded Copper Canyon on Thursday night.
In the 1st half, the Lady Raiders got off to a slow start; only scoring 15 points and trailing by 5 at the halfway mark.
But, the 2nd half would be a completely different game.
Just minutes into the 3rd, Myna Johnson would score the 1st basket for the Lady Raiders in what would help "kick-start" a barrage of points for the rest of the night.
Cibola would more than double it's 1st half point total to take the 47-35 win and advance to the 2nd round of the 6A playoffs.
Rylee Lakey led the way with 14 points and 7 rebounds; but perhaps the most important stat from her was the 5 blocks she produced, frustrating a number of Copper Canyon's scoring attempts throughout the night.
Arianne Burgos had a solid 2nd half, scoring 13 points and Arlyssa Underwood also contributed 12 points in the winning effort.
