EL CENTRO, Calif. - Less than 2 months from the start of prep football season, programs across the Desert Southwest are trying to get a head start on being "game ready."
The Central Spartans are hosting their 6th consecutive 2-day passing scrimmage; including Imperial Valley programs like Brawley, Imperial, Holtville, Calexico and Vincent Memorial.
Yuma are powers Gila Ridge and Yuma Catholic are also joining the ranks, along with CETYS out of Mexicali.
Spartans head coach Rookie Pena says the value for each participating program will pay off by the time the season begins:
"It's a great evaluation. It enable us to go ahead and know what kids know our routes and our concepts. What kids have invested time and effort into getting to know the playbook, as well as developing chemistry between the quarterback and wide receivers."
Even though this interstate passing scrimmage will conclude on Wednesday night, Yuma Catholic will host their own next week; on Tuesday and Wednesday.
