Shamrocks on a mission!

YC boys soccer advances to 2nd round

YUMA, Ariz. - After clinching a record 4th straight state title, the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks boys soccer team is making a mission of adding another the state championship to it's already colossal mantel.

After the dust settled in the 1st round of the playoffs, the Rocks are another victory closer to the ultimate goal.

Going unbeaten at 16-0 during the regular season, YC managed to capture the top seed in the tournament and drew 16th seeded Sahuarita as it's 1st round opponent.

Through all of the 1st half and the start of the 2nd, the Rocks wouldn't have it easy as the visitors only gave up a single goal; despite numerous opportunities YC had to extend it's slim lead.

But, the Rocks would break through and pile on 4 more goals to take the 5-nil victory and advance to the quarterfinal round.

Eluterio Gutierrez and Ernie Gutierrez would each score a pair of goals and teammate Ed Morales would add another for good measure to cap the victory.

The Rocks will play their playoff home finale at Ricky Gwynn Stadium against 8th seeded Chandler Prep this Saturday.

Kickoff will be at 2 pm Mountain time.
