For the 2nd time in less than a month, Gila Ridge girl's soccer is sending one it's own to the next level.
Mia Corners signed on the dotted line with Grand Canyon University and now it's Leilei Renaud's turn!
On Monday afternoon, the Hawks senior center back signed her letter of intent with the AWC Lady Matadors women's soccer team.
The signing itself almost comes to surprise to Renaud, as she didn't even dream of playing college ball even a year ago:
"It feels amazing because it shows even if you don't have that experience, you can still make it to this level through hard work and effort."
Lady Mats head coach Nicole Acosta explains to News 11 Sports why the program is excited to have Renaud aboard:
"Her communication, her passion and just that strong physical appearance on the back line is what we're needing and I think she'll bring that right away."
Renaud joins some of the returning members of the Lady Mats team that went unbeaten in the regular season this past fall and qualified for the program's 1st ever appearance in the NJCAA Tournament.
